On the 'Cheap' - Outdoor Ideas

Building a backyard on the cheap doesn't mean a bare, boring backyard.  Using salvaged materials and personal touches, you can create a unique and inviting backyard that everyone will want to barbeque in!  My husband and I have started construction in the backyard, so I will be posting photos of the transformation over the next few weeks.  Just adding a new fence, new parking pad, relaying the concrete sidewalk, and adding a few pavers for our grill and patio table... so nothing much! ;)

Succulents are a great choice for plantings.... just a little water and plenty of sun and they should grow like weeds!  Granted we are limited to our options in CO being in 'Zone 5' but many different types of sedum grow very well here!

A clean, contemporary setting is always intriguing.  The round pavers surrounded by the pebbles in inexpensive compared to a yard filled with pavers corner to corner.  Also, this solution is low maintenance, but looks like a million bucks!

Building a bench out of concrete blocks is an unusual and an inexpensive solution!  Just add a few cushion and your ready to go!  The best thing, the bench will never rot or have to be re-painted.
Fire pits are a great addition to the Colorado summer.   Stacking concrete culvert spaces on top of each other is an unusual look and easy to assemble.
If you need to add light, instead of your typical outdoor lamps exchange them for interesting chandeliers.... just make sure they are suitable for the outdoor weather if they are not covered by a roof.

Hi, great ideas for the backyard! I was wondering if you placed anything between your concrete blocks for your bench? Also, with the crazy weather here in the summer, do you bring in your cushions every time it rains? Thanks, great blog!
